Newsletter spring 2026

The first months of the year are already behind us and a lot has happened within Taus Gym during that time. From events and training sessions to new developments within the gym and plans for the coming months. With the start of spring always comes a period when many activities take place and many members work towards new goals, exams and training sessions.

In this newsletter, we take you through a look back at the past period, but also look ahead to what is still to come. We focus on FIT Champions, the Taus Gym socks, the To Good To Go box and practical matters such as holidays and days off, among other things. You will also read more about the WhatsApp groups, first aid training and the Night against Sexual Violence.

We also share information about the new Women Only course, the curriculum, pre-tests and exams and you will find another contribution from Merel later in the newsletter.

In short, plenty of developments and activities to update you on in this newsletter. So be sure to read on to keep up to date with everything going on within Taus Gym.

Winter retrospective

The winter period of 2026 was once again marked by commitment, development and great results within Taus Gym. Several special moments took place over the past few months, both athletically and within wider practice and training. For instance, in this retrospective we look back at FIT Champions, the VEVA final exercise and the graduates of the exams, among others.

Below you can read a summary of the key moments from this winter period.

FIT CHAMPIONS

FIT Champions 2026 was another successful edition, in which participants challenged themselves physically and mentally. With a lot of commitment, perseverance and sportsmanship, it was a great day for everyone who took part. Again this year, a wonderful amount was raised for Spieren voor Spieren.

VEVA final exercise

The VEVA 28-hour exercise was another special moment that focused on commitment, discipline and cooperation. What these participants show is done on a voluntary basis and shows well how much dedication there is within the excellence programme. A beautiful and impressive conclusion to this intensive exercise.

Passed!

Over the past period, training has been hard again within all groups. Nice to see how members continue to make strides and motivate each other during training. Congratulations to everyone who passed and on to the next level.

Taus Gym socks

The Taus Gym socks are now available. Designed for comfort while working out, these socks are also suitable for everyday wear. They match the look of the gym and are now regularly seen during training sessions.

The socks are available in black and white, with white, red or blue printing. In the video opposite, you can see them in action while training.

Too good to go box

Reminder for everyone: at our main location in Tilburg, we still have the Too Good To Go box. This box is meant for items you no longer use yourself, but which can still get a second life within the gym. Think of sportswear, protective gear, water bottles or other training gear. You can put things in here, but also take something out if you can use it. This way, we help each other and prevent good things from lying around unused.

We also have a lost property box. This is where water bottles, gloves, shirts, towels and other items that are left behind after training sessions regularly end up. Stuff often stays in this bin for a long time, so do you miss something? Then take a moment to look in there.

This way, we keep the gym tidy together, help each other whenever possible and make sure items are not lost unnecessarily.

Night Against Sexual Violence

Sexual violence is unfortunately still a reality and comes in many different forms, from harassment and unwanted behaviour to physical violence. The Night Against Sexual Violence draws attention to this problem and raises money to prevent sexual violence and support victims.

Retrieved from Saturday 30 May the fourth edition of the Night Against Sexual Violence will take place in Rotterdam. During this event, participants can walk along with the 10-kilometre evening run (start 19:30) Whether the 20-kilometre night run (start 23:30). The aim of this event is clear: everyone should be able to feel safe anytime, anywhere, even after dark.

Are you 18 years or older and would like to join? You can sign up by sending an email to Louise (stayaway@ikmf.nl). She is the head of the women's division in the Netherlands and organises the team that will run from IKMF. We will also run jointly from Tilburg towards Rotterdam.

Can't join but want to contribute? Then you can sponsor Louise and make a donation via her team page. This way, you still contribute to the fight against sexual violence.

We encourage everyone to run with us, get sponsored and make a fist against sexual violence together.

First aid course

This year, we are once again organising a first aid course. This course gives us the knowledge and skills to ensure safety during training sessions. Accidents can happen both within sport and in everyday life, so it is important to be prepared.

The course has the same format as previous years and consists of two parts: an e-learning that you can take at home and a practical afternoon where the skills are practised and applied.

The practical day will take place at Saturday 20 June from 13:00 to 17:00.

Costs:
€125 for the course
€140,- if you also want to receive an official First Aid diploma from the Royal First Aid Association

A limited number of places are available. If you would like to participate in the course, please register via contact form.

WhatsApp groups

Within Taus Gym, we use various WhatsApp groups to share important information around training sessions, schedules and activities quickly and clearly. To ensure that these groups remain clear and pleasant for everyone, we apply a number of clear agreements.

Game rules WhatsApp group Taus Gym
  • This group is primarily meant so that we as gym and instructors can easily share important information.

  • We regularly post videos of lessons in the group. This is meant so you can see yourself back, learn from your own techniques and track your development. Are you alone on a video? Then of course you are welcome to share it yourself on social media. Please note that not everyone wants to appear on social media, we respect that.

  • If you yourself have a relevant and substantive post for the group that has to do with training or the gym, you may share it.

  • Absences, personal questions or individual matters are best sent directly to the instructors. That way, the group remains clear and functional for everyone.

We are happy with how things are currently going in the groups and like to keep it as clear and pleasant for everyone.

Holiday schedule

In the coming months, there are a number of times when the class schedule may look different due to holidays and public holidays. During these periods, some training sessions may be cancelled, so always keep a close eye on the agenda in order to avoid surprises.

During the holiday period, you may participate in all classes on the schedule, regardless of your membership or regular group. This only applies during the holiday period, not during separate holidays. A great opportunity to take a different class or an extra workout.

May holidays: 25 April to 3 May

Any schedule changes and adjusted lesson times are always communicated via the calendar and WhatsApp groups.

Women Only Krav Maga course

Also in this period, we will start again with the Women Only Krav Maga course. This course focuses on women's resilience and is part of the Stay Away programme of the IKMF.

A

Krav Maga focuses on defending against aggression and violence but women face this in a different way to men. The course we offer focuses on situations where

women specifically face. Think of sexual harassment.

COLUMN DIETICIAN MEREL COENDERS

Protein powder

Protein powders are used by many people, but is it really necessary? And is it better to choose animal or plant-based?

What are protein powders?

Proteins are made up of amino acids, the building blocks of your body. They provide energy and support muscle building and repair.

Protein is naturally found in animal products such as meat, fish and dairy, as well as plant products such as nuts, legumes and cereals.

Nowadays, there is a wide range of protein powders. These are dietary supplements with a high protein content, made by extracting and filtering proteins from a source such as milk or peas.

Protein powders are available from both animal and plant sources.

Are protein powders necessary?

Most adults, including recreational athletes, get enough protein through their diet. For them, a protein powder is not necessary.

However, some groups may benefit from extra protein, for example the elderly, frail people or intense athletes who do not get enough protein through diet.

There is no evidence that long-term higher protein intake is harmful to healthy people, but there is also no evidence that it provides additional health benefits.

So, excessive protein intake is not necessary.

Vegetable vs animal
Animal protein powders are often made from whey, casein, egg or collagen. Plant-based powders come from peas, soy, hemp, rice or pumpkin seeds, for example.

It is often thought that the ‘quality’ of animal proteins is higher, but this is not entirely true. Animal proteins do indeed contain all the essential amino acids, the ones your body cannot make itself.

Not all plant protein sources have a complete amino acid profile, but some do, such as soy, hemp and lupin. In addition, it is quite possible to combine different plant sources, so you still get a complete amino acid profile. Moreover, plant-based proteins are often better for both your health and the environment.

Protein powders can be a useful addition to their diet for some people, but for most people they are not necessary.

If you choose to use a powder, a plant-based variant with a complete amino acid profile is often the best choice for both your own health and the environment.
