Click here for the general newsletter.

Summer is finally here and the holidays are in sight! We can enjoy the nice weather again and look forward to the upcoming events.

In this newsletter, we want to update you on all the cool things coming up in our gym including the exams, Women Only Krav Maga course and outdoor training sessions. Furthermore, we want to share some important updates and news with you.

Outdoor training courses

Ready for some outdoor training adventure? With the lovely weather ahead, now is the perfect opportunity to get outside and test out your skills in a more realistic environment. Discover how training in the fresh air is not only super good for you, but also just plain awesome fun!

From 1 July to 31 September we can get outdoors! Each class we decide whether to train indoors or outdoors. It depends on the weather and the topics we will cover that day. So make sure you bring both your outdoor and indoor sports shoes, and an extra set of clothes in case you get wet during the training because there will be some water during the training.

In Breda, we have planned some dates when we are sure to train outside. This is because the hall is not available during the summer holidays.

So come and join the outdoor training sessions in Breda:

  • Thursday 20 July
  • Monday, 24 July
  • Thursday 17 August
  • Monday, 21 August

Don't miss out on these outdoor adventure experiences! Put on your trainers, get a dose of energy and hopefully we'll see you then!

New Women Only Krav Maga course

We will soon start a brand new round of the Women Only Krav Maga course. This course is specially designed to introduce women to self-defence and Krav Maga in a powerful way. Over 9 exciting lessons, you will learn to deal with situations that women unfortunately often face, such as those involving sexual harassment.

You will take this inspiring course together with other driven women, under the guidance of our experienced instructors. Together, we will create a safe and friendly environment where everyone can feel comfortable while training.

The course takes place from 18 September to 20 November 2023 at our Tilburg location, at Professor Romeinstraat 11a. Classes always take place on Monday evenings, from 20:15 to 21:15.

Anyone aged 14 and over can participate. Are you younger than 14? No problem! We would like to invite you to take a trial lesson to see if the course is for you too.

Are you curious about what this course has to offer you? Then don't hesitate any longer and register now for a free trial lesson on Monday 4 or 11 September. This way, you can experience for yourself or with your mother what the course has to offer.

Already sure you want to participate? Great! Then don't wait any longer and register here in for the course. We can't wait to join you on this adventurous journey!

Are you still too excited to participate alone? Good news: we have special rates for duos that allow you to participate together with a friend or your mother! You can register together via contact form.

Want to know more? Then check out the Women Only course page for more information.

IKMF jersey

We would like to draw your attention to something important: the IKMF uniform! During krav maga classes, we wear this uniform so that we can train safely with each other. With all that physical contact and intense exercises, it is super important that we wear the right clothing.

Wearing the IKMF uniform during classes creates a sense of unity and equality. Moreover, the tenue is made of sturdy material that is perfect for our training sessions. We find that some members often train in loose clothing, which can easily tear or even be dangerous. Therefore, it is essential to wear the right clothing.

Good news: the black cotton IKMF t-shirts have just been restocked! So if you don't already have the full kit, we recommend you purchase it now.

If you need any advice on clothing, don't hesitate to drop us a line at contact form. We'd love to help you out!

More information on the equipment needed during the training sessions can be found at here

Introducing: Emma de Wolff

Some of you have seen me during Krav Maga training sessions but for those of you who don't know me yet, I will introduce myself and tell you how I ended up in this newsletter.

To make sure half the newsletter is not just about me, I have written a short piece for now. Of course, I would like to share much more with you about me and what I like to do. That's why I refer you to the longer version which you can here can find.

My name is Emma and I am 20 years old. I started Krav Maga with the adults when I was just 16. I came in as someone who had absolutely no passion for sport and was quite insecure. I have since grown tremendously in resilience and self-confidence.

Maybe some of you have already noticed but recently I started doing some other things within the gym. I am working on different tasks behind the scenes of Taus Gym in which I also want to become more involved so if you have any great ideas, please let me know!

I have also been given other ambitions than just training and doing exams. Namely, I am on my way to teach classes and also do the instructor training. At the moment, I am walking along during the Kids, Youth and Women Only Krav Maga classes in both Tilburg and Breda. I really enjoy attending these classes in a different way. Especially with the kids, it is a special experience to see how full of energy and enthusiasm they are involved in the lessons.

I am also planning to join Meet the Marines again next year. Last year I also participated and I really liked it. If you want to know more about this, please read the blog by about the 24H Meet the Marines Experience and who knows, maybe our team will be joined by you next year.

Other than that, of course, I just want to come to classes a lot and the other events that are organised. You will also see me at the upcoming members' BBQ on 23 September. I hope to see you all there too and otherwise I will see you again during classes.

Reminder to register IKMF

We would like to remind you that since 2023, it is required that youth and children also register with the IKMF. Among other things, an IKMF membership is required to take your Krav Maga exam. For only 10,- a year, you can become a member and enjoy the benefits of membership.

Want more information about membership and the application process at the IKMF? Then visit the IKMF website, where you can find all the details. Remember that any future deregistrations must also be arranged through the IKMF.

Summer holiday schedule

We understand all too well that many of you have plans to get away from it all during the holidays. But don't worry, we have thought of everything! In fact, we have a special class schedule during the summer months, so you can still have plenty of training.

Please note that the gym is closed from 27 July to 9 August. The two weeks before and after we will have a modified class schedule, so we can still offer you enough classes.

Want to know when and where classes take place? Then quickly check our agenda. There you will find all information about the adjusted class schedule.

So go out, enjoy your holidays and then return full of energy. We look forward to seeing you again and having a blast together.

Happy holidays and see you soon!

Column dietician Merel Coenders

With these high temperatures, it is important to cool down, including in food.

Therefore, in this newsletter, I share my green smoothie recipe, made with frozen spinach and blueberries. The advantage of frozen vegetables and fruits is that they are frozen soon after harvest. As a result, they retain much more of their vitamins and minerals than fresh produce. In addition, it is often cheaper and you can store it for longer. Time to fill the freezer!

Recipe green smoothie

The recipe below is suitable for 2 smoothies.

Supplies:

  • Powerful blender or hand blender.

Ingredients:

  • 150 g frozen spinach
  • 50 g frozen blueberries
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 green kiwi (possibly with peel, for extra fibre)
  • 300 ml unsweetened soy milk

Preparation:

  • Cut the banana and kiwi into pieces. For extra fibre, you can leave the skin on the kiwi.
  • Put the fruit, spinach and soy milk in the blender or a tall cup (in case of a hand blender). Blend until smooth.
  • Divide the smoothie between 2 glasses. Top with hemp seeds, flaxseeds or chia seeds, if desired.

Enjoy your meal!
