NEWSLETTER VOLUME 8 NO. 4

By Riaz 0

After a beautiful, tropical summer, it is finally comfortable sports weather again. Looking forward to the cosy autumn and winter period, we thought it was time for another newsletter. This time, we discuss the upcoming winter outdoor training, the Krav Maga exams and mock exams, the Women Only Krav Maga course and the upcoming holiday schedule. We also like to share with you news about the CIC who may host Taus Gym, information on end-of-year drinks and member interview with Emma!

WINTER OUTDOOR TRAINING FOR CHARITY

With temperatures dropping again, some will have seen it coming. On Wednesday 11 December from 19:30 to 21:30 Taus Gym is again organising its annual winter outdoor Krav Maga training. As the title suggests, the training will take place outside, in the dark. Participants should come in normal clothes. This way, we create the most realistic environment possible to train your self-defence techniques in.

The fee for the training is €10. All profits made will be donated to Fund Victim Support. Fonds Slachtofferhulp is a non-profit organisation dedicated to helping victims who have endured various traumatic experiences. The aim of Fund Victim Support is to ensure that people can pick up the pieces after a major event and no longer feel like victims. Thus, Fund Victim Support is one of the driving forces behind Centre for Sexual Violence, VictimWijzer, VICTIMS project, TrafVic and support a major international investigation into victims of child pornography.

Sign up before 1 December via the contact page.

CIC AT TAUS GYM

We are honoured to host the IKMF CIC (Civil Instructor Course). During this course, about 20 aspiring Krav Maga instructors are trained at our venue to become Krav Maga instructors by the GIT (Global Instructor Team). These are the highest graded Krav Maga experts in the world. This intensive course lasts a total of 23 days, spread over 3 blocks in November, December and January.

To facilitate this, we need to free up some space in our timetable. All evening classes will continue during this period, only classes on Sundays will be cancelled. Check the agenda.

The CIC course will take place on the following dates:

  • CIC part 1: Saturday, November 2 - Sunday, November 10
  • CIC part 2: Saturday, December 7 - Sunday, December 15
  • CIC part 3: Saturday 18 January - Sunday 22 January

WOMEN ONLY COURSE

Women usually face a different kind of violence in everyday life. Taus Gym believes in a world where everyone should be able to feel safe on the streets. Because of this reason, we have put together a unique 9-week course in which women learn effective self-defence techniques. For more information on the course, visit our blog.

The Women Only Krav Maga course takes place every Monday from 21 October to 16 December (from 19:15 to 20:30). Register via the contact page.

MEMBER INTERVIEW

“I work towards a goal, but it always takes some time. After all, I like to keep space open for change.”

Name: Emma de Wolff

Age: 17

What classes do you take: Krav Maga and FIT boxing bag training

What do you do in daily life? (work/leisure)

During the week, I'm at school. I am now in 5 havo, in my exam year, so it is quite busy. Even after school, I spend a lot of time studying. In my spare time, I enjoy walking, reading and writing. Sometimes I mountain bike, but not often. At weekends, I work at Bobbejaanland in the catering department.

For what purpose do you exercise?

I would like to be fitter, of course, but I exercise with the aim of becoming more confident and daring.

How does Taus Gym help you achieve those goals?

I get motivated to persevere when things don't work out for a while, and at the end of a training session I then see that I can still do it. This makes me feel more confident.

What is your favourite memory of Taus Gym?

I really enjoyed the end-of-year drinks and the BBQ because I really got to know people there. I also had many pleasant moments with other members during training sessions.

What does sport mean to you physically and mentally?

Physically, it's mainly getting stronger. I like knowing that I do have some strength despite my height. Mentally, for me it mainly means perseverance. Sometimes I find it hard to keep going.

Suppose you have a big challenge in the near future, how do you prepare yourself mentally?

Usually, I then practise by doing some kind of practice challenge. For example, before a test at school, I take a practice test beforehand to see if I can do it. If it then turns out that I can do it, I leave it afterwards. Keep practising is important but I used to tend to do that too much and then things often went wrong.

What helps you relax?

Walking, writing and reading. Basically all the things in which I have time to think about problems or events.

What skills would you still like to have or improve.

I am quite shy and not so quick to ask questions or start a conversation. I would like to work on that, but I know it might take some time.

Are you more of a goal-oriented or process-oriented person? Explain.

I am more of a process-oriented person. I do work towards a goal, but it always takes some time. This is because I like to keep space open for change. I also like to take time to think about the next few steps.

What is your motto?

The best achievement in life is doing something you don't think you can do.

Do you have any sports and/or health tips that have worked for you that you would like to share with other members?

Drink a lot of water and keep going once you get going 🙂 ...
