NEWSLETTER VOLUME 8 NO. 1

By Riaz 0

Hello everyone!

We hope you had happy holidays and are ready for another sporty new year! 2018 has been a great year with the opening of the new venue. A year in which we were able to share great moments with our members and also welcome many new members. This year too, we are going to make it another smashing year with a lot of returning and new activities! We hope everyone feels at home at Taus Gym again this year and look forward to seeing you at one of the classes!

TIMETABLE CHANGES
In the new year, we have a few schedule changes. Always check the agenda of the website for current lesson times.

The FIT500 will be a FIT circuit workout on Thursdays
The times of beginner and advanced Krav Maga on Wednesdays have been switched

PAUL: THE NEW INSTRUCTOR IN TRAINING
Paul is the new instructor in training. He has been practising Krav Maga for over 5 years, 3 of which at Taus Gym, and he is also father of 3 children, one of which also participates in kids Krav Maga with us. Paul will assist with the lessons in the near future and we are happy with this great new addition.

CLOTHING DURING EXERCISE
It is important to wear appropriate clothing when exercising. In Krav Maga, this means putting on trousers made of sturdy material without zips or other hard or sharp edges as these can hurt yourself or someone else. Clothes made of thin material can easily tear and you can get caught in wide shirts. We recommend buying suitable Krav Maga clothing such as the IKMF shirts and trousers. Also try for FIT clothing of sturdy material that is not too loose or too tight. Also, shoes are sometimes worn outside, inside. This can lead to dirt from the street getting onto the floor where athletes regularly lie and sit. For hygienic reasons, we would therefore like to emphasise that only indoor shoes are allowed and ask that these shoes only be put on indoors.

MEMBER INTERVIEW!

Title: Taus Gym is a challenge for me

Name: Eva Broers

Age: 28

Member since: October 2018

What classes do you take: Krav Maga

  • What do you do in daily life?

In daily life, I am doing my PhD research, investigating lifestyle change in people with cardiovascular diseases. I also work as a psychologist in a care home. In my spare time, I enjoy going to concerts/festivals or having a drink with friends. I also enjoy reading and drawing.

  • Where does your interest in sports come from?

I have been doing sports all my life, it's not like that interest came specifically from somewhere.

  • What sports have you been involved in?

I played football for a long time. I also always enjoyed skateboarding. In recent years, I took it a bit easier and do yoga and fitness. And recently, of course, Krav Maga.

  • What do you look for in a sport?

Sport is mainly a mental outlet. It is also nice to keep up my fitness. The work I do is mainly sedentary and without sport, nothing would come of my exercise and summer body.

  • What does sport mean to you physically and mentally?

Physically, I feel more energetic. Mentally, it allows me to clear my head and at that moment I don't have to be busy with anything but the exercise itself.

  • What was your first introduction to Krav Maga?

Through a friend of mine. She asked if I would join her once for a trial lesson. I had never heard of Krav Maga before, nor had I ever been interested in martial or defence sports. But the fact that the physical and mental are both so challenged appealed to me. Krav Maga forces me to self-reflect and I like that.

  • Why did you choose TG?

It came my way.

  • What are your sports goals at TG?

Feeling more comfortable in circumstances where I have to defend myself. Standing behind my own boundaries and not letting them depend on someone else.

  • What goals have you already achieved at TG?

Getting rid of me AND hitting someone without feeling guilty about it.

  • What was the most special experience you experienced at TG?

The realisation that you really can use anything to defend yourself, including your teeth.

  • How do you combine sports with your work and social life?

Bringing friends to exercise and scheduling (and sticking to!) the times you exercise.

  • Do you have any sports and/or health tips that have worked for you that you would like to share with other members?

As of last summer, I no longer eat meat. Not only is this much better for your body (it reduces the risk of disease), but in addition you can really do something for the environment and animal welfare. Since then, I feel much better and have more energy. Highly recommended for everyone.
