We have also welcomed a lot of new members, kids, youngsters, men and women in both FIT and Krav and of course we love it! We are having a great time and that is partly thanks to you. That's why we would like to thank the members for their commitment and all the good energy each and every lesson!

Member interview!

Taus Gym for me is: inspiration, challenge and sociability!

Name: Lars Jansma

Age: 36

Which classes do you take: Krav Maga & FIT Heavy Bagworkout

  • What do you do in daily life?
    • I am married to Wendy and dad of Inge (4) and Eva (2). I work as a Logistic Specialist at Origio BV in Hilvarenbeek. My hobbies are: Doing fun things with my family and relatives, playing sports (at TG) and watching football at Willem II together with my friends.
  • Where does your interest in sports come from?
    • Actually, I have always been interested in sports. Not only to watch (including Willem II and the Tilburg Trappers), but also definitely to play sports myself! I think this is because my parents have always played a sport. They thought it was important for me to play sports because of the social contacts you make, but also to be active. I also have many friends who play a sport since I was young. This also stimulates and motivates you to play sports.
  • What sports have you been involved in?
    • Besides the usual swimming lessons, I started playing football at a young age and that lasted until last football season (after 30 years of football, I was done with it for once). Now I still do cycling, Krav Maga and FIT boxing bag training.
  • What do you look for in a sport?
    • In sport, I look for the challenge of pushing my fitness and endurance and being able to improve myself in what I do. But I also just like the feeling of having “done well”.
  • What does sport mean to you physically and mentally?
    • The physical and mental areas are acquired interchangeably for me: By training yourself, you not only feel fitter physically, but also mentally a lot stronger. For example, if you get hit in Krav Maga, of course it's annoying, but mentally you realise that you're not made of glass either, and that you can take more than you think.
  • What was your first introduction to Krav Maga and/or FIT?
    • I was fed up with football, and I had wanted to do self-defence for a long time. The threshold was quite high to sign up somewhere because I couldn't see myself doing Krav Maga, for instance. On Facebook, I saw that Nicky Verdonk (whom I still know from playing football) also does Krav Maga at TG. I asked him for some information about TG and Krav Maga and that's when the ball started rolling with a trial lesson on 10 January. I actually liked that so much that I signed up on 11 January to take one Krav Maga class a week. At the new location, I did a trial FIT boxing bag training class in the first week, and because I find both really addictive to do, I extended my subscription to unlimited Krav Maga, and unlimited FIT.
  • Why did you choose TG?
    • There are actually two reasons for this: the guidance and the (mutual) atmosphere. From the first trial lesson, I really like the personal touch and guidance. If you take part in an all-level Krav Maga lesson, for example, Riaz, Joost and Louise succeed in making the training interesting and challenging for both beginners and advanced students. If you have a question, or if you need help, they are there for you immediately and take the time to help you. I also think the atmosphere among the members is very important. I really like it at TG. Partly because there is a lot of mutual respect for each other during training, but also outside training! There is also a relaxed atmosphere at TG where it is nice to work out.
  • What are your sports goals at TG?
    • Actually, I have no real goals to measure: to lose and maintain weight, to improve my fitness and to feel comfortable in my skin through exercise. ..... Although maybe recently I do have one “real” goal: passing the P1 exam in Krav Maga.
  • What goals have you already achieved at TG?
    • The goal I have already achieved (and which I am really happy with!) is that in the six months I have been exercising at TG, I have lost 18 kg, and weigh under 80 kg!
  • What was the most special experience you experienced at TG?
    • In six months, I have already had many fun and special experiences at TG;
    • Joining a groundfight workshop for the first time (which left my feet open, and forced me to go to work in my flip-flops all week...)
    • Participate in the “Protect your family” workshop given by Tamir Gilad during the opening of the new venue.
    • Ton Rittimon also once helped with his preparation for the P1 Exam: Grabbing a curriculum sheet, and finding out after half an hour of practising that you have grabbed the P2 curriculum....
  • How do you combine sports with your work and social life?
    • I exercise almost every day. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, I train on the road bike for an hour in the evening when my daughters are in bed. I have a roller bench that the road bike can go on, so I don't have to leave home! On Tuesday and Thursday evenings, I come to TG for Krav Maga and boxing bag training.
I like to keep weekends free as much as possible to do something fun.
On Saturdays, therefore, I don't exercise. On Sundays it can vary, sometimes I do Krav Maga, other times I get on my racing bike at 7.30 a.m. with some friends to do a nice lap of cycling. Fortunately, we always get back in time so the rest of Sunday is free for fun things!
  • Do you have any sports and/or health tips that have worked for you that you would like to share with other members?
    • Always go! Make time to exercise and just go even if you don't feel like it or have a bad day. After exercising, you will go home feeling better than the one you left the door with!
