Newsletter spring 2026 kids & youngsters

The first months of the year are already behind us and a lot has happened within Taus Gym during that time. From events and training sessions to new developments within the gym and plans for the coming months. With the start of spring always comes a period when many activities take place and many members work towards new goals, exams and training sessions.

In this newsletter, we take you through a look back at the past period, but also look ahead to what is still to come. We focus on FIT Champions, the Taus Gym socks, the To Good To Go box and practical matters such as holidays and days off, among other things. You will also read more about the WhatsApp groups, first aid training and the Night against Sexual Violence.

We also share information about the new Women Only course, the curriculum, pre-tests and exams and you will find another contribution from Merel later in the newsletter.

In short, plenty of developments and activities to update you on in this newsletter. So be sure to read on to keep up to date with everything going on within Taus Gym.

Winter retrospective

The winter period of 2026 was once again marked by commitment, development and great results within Taus Gym. Several special moments took place over the past few months, both at the sporting level and within wider practice and training. For instance, in this retrospective, we look back at FIT Champions and the graduates of the exams, among others.

Below you can read a summary of the key moments from this winter period.

FIT CHAMPIONS

FIT Champions 2026 was another successful edition, in which participants challenged themselves physically and mentally. With a lot of commitment, perseverance and sportsmanship, it was a great day for everyone who took part. Again this year, a wonderful amount was raised for Spieren voor Spieren.

VEVA and sport & exercise

For Yonder Sport & Exercise, we recently concluded a 10-lesson programme with a resilience exam. On the same day, we also provided a self-defence workshop for Yonder Veiligheid & Vakmanschap, focusing on defending against threats with sharp objects. Nice to see that courses are increasingly investing in the safety, resilience and development of their students.

Passed!

Over the past period, training has been hard again within all groups. Nice to see how members continue to make strides and motivate each other during training. Congratulations to everyone who passed and on to the next level.

Taus Gym socks

The Taus Gym socks are available. They are comfortable while working out, but are also fun to wear outside classes. Meanwhile, they can already be seen regularly in the gym.

The socks are available in black and white, with white, red or blue printing. In the video to the right, you can see how they look while working out.

Too good to go box

Our main location in Tilburg still has the Too Good To Go box. Do you have sports equipment lying around at home that you no longer use, but are still good? Then you can put them in the box so someone else can be happy with them. Think of sportswear, protective equipment, water bottles or other training gear.

Of course, you may also take something out if you can still use something yourself. This way we help each other and stuff gets a nice second life.

We also have a lost property box. Water bottles, gloves, shirts, towels and other items that are left behind after training regularly end up in there. Have you lost something? Then be sure to take a look in there, chances are your stuff is still there waiting for you.

This is how we keep the gym tidy together and ensure that items are not lost unnecessarily.

Roster change in Tilburg

From 4 May, the kids and youth Krav Maga classes on Mondays in Tilburg will start a little later than you are used to. The classes will move up 15 minutes, so please check the new times carefully.

Kids Krav Maga
18:45 - 19:30

Youth Krav Maga
19:30 - 20:15

Put it in your diary right away, so that you are just on time on the mat on Monday.

First aid course

This year, we are once again organising a first aid course. During this course, you will learn what you can do if someone gets injured or needs help. Useful during sports, but also in everyday life.

The course consists of two parts: an e-learning that you can take at home and a practical afternoon where you will practise with the components from the course.

The practical day will take place at Saturday 20 June from 13:00 to 17:00.

Costs:
€125 for the course
€140,- if you also want to receive an official First Aid diploma from the Royal First Aid Association

Participation is possible from the age of 14.

A limited number of places are available. If you would like to participate in the course, please register via contact form.

WhatsApp groups

Within Taus Gym, we use WhatsApp groups to quickly and clearly share important information about training sessions, schedules and activities. This way, everyone knows what's going on and it stays clear.

Game rules WhatsApp group Taus Gym
  • The WhatsApp group is mainly for messages from the gym and instructors. Think handy updates, important announcements or info about training sessions and activities.

  • We also regularly share videos of the lessons in the group. So you can watch yourself back, learn from your techniques and track your own development. Are you alone on a video? Then of course you are welcome to share it yourself on social media. Just be aware that not everyone likes that, so we take that into account together.

  • Do you have a message of your own that is really important and has to do with training or the gym? Then you may share it in the group.

  • Are you absent, have a personal question or want to discuss something separately? Then just send a message directly to the instructors. This keeps the group nice and clear for everyone.

We think it is super that things are going so well in the groups and like to keep it as pleasant and orderly as possible.

Holiday schedule

In the coming months, there are a few times when the class schedule may be different due to holidays and public holidays. Sometimes training sessions may be cancelled, so always check in the agenda before coming to training.

During the holiday period, you may join all classes scheduled, even if it is not normally your group or class time. This only applies during holidays, not on separate holidays. You might like to try a different class or join an extra training session.

May holidays: 25 April to 3 May

If there are schedule changes, we always let you know via the calendar and WhatsApp groups.

Protein powder

Protein powders are used by many people, but is it really necessary? And is it better to choose animal or plant-based?

I am text block. Click edit button to change this text. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.

What are protein powders?

Proteins are made up of amino acids, the building blocks of your body. They provide energy and support muscle building and repair.

Protein is naturally found in animal products such as meat, fish and dairy, as well as plant products such as nuts, legumes and cereals.

Nowadays, there is a wide range of protein powders. These are dietary supplements with a high protein content, made by extracting and filtering proteins from a source such as milk or peas.

Protein powders are available from both animal and plant sources.

Are protein powders necessary?

Most adults, including recreational athletes, get enough protein through their diet. For them, a protein powder is not necessary.

However, some groups may benefit from extra protein, for example the elderly, frail people or intense athletes who do not get enough protein through diet.

There is no evidence that long-term higher protein intake is harmful to healthy people, but there is also no evidence that it provides additional health benefits.

So, excessive protein intake is not necessary.

Vegetable vs animal
Animal protein powders are often made from whey, casein, egg or collagen. Plant-based powders come from peas, soy, hemp, rice or pumpkin seeds, for example.

It is often thought that the ‘quality’ of animal proteins is higher, but this is not entirely true. Animal proteins do indeed contain all the essential amino acids, the ones your body cannot make itself.

Not all plant protein sources have a complete amino acid profile, but some do, such as soy, hemp and lupin. In addition, it is quite possible to combine different plant sources, so you still get a complete amino acid profile. Moreover, plant-based proteins are often better for both your health and the environment.

Protein powders can be a useful addition to their diet for some people, but for most people they are not necessary.

If you choose to use a powder, a plant-based variant with a complete amino acid profile is often the best choice for both your own health and the environment.
