Newsletter autumn 2023 kids & youngsters

By Riaz 0

The autumn season has started again and we are ready to embrace the cosiness and adventures! As the leaves change their colours and the days get shorter, we have some super fun events planned.

In this period, we train our Krav Maga skills in a different environment during the winter outdoor training sessions, we start a brand new round of the Women Only Krav Maga course and there are some more special and exciting activities on the agenda. You will also find everything you need to know about the exams here and also read about healthy tips for your resistance in Merel's blog.

Wondering what the next period will look like at Taus Gym? Then read on quickly!

Winter outdoor training courses

With temperatures plunging down and days getting shorter, it's that time again: winter outdoor training!

This time we swap the familiar indoor setting for the realistic setting of our daily lives - yes, we are moving outside! Here you can practise your Krav Maga skills while wearing your usual clothes and footwear.

So, make sure you bring your everyday clothes and dress in layers so you can put things on and off with ease. We want you to stay comfortable no matter the weather!

In both Tilburg and Breda, from Monday 11 December to Thursday 14 December all kids and youth classes are provided outdoors.

And remember, we do winterise, but in case of bad weather, we move the fun inside. So don't forget to bring your usual sports gear!

Women Only Krav Maga course

We will soon be starting a new Women Only Krav Maga course again! Specially designed to offer women and girls the chance to engage in both physical and mental resilience in a powerful way.

This course focuses on situations that women unfortunately often encounter, such as harassment and unwanted attention. You will learn to be stronger with effective self-defence techniques but also set boundaries through your use of voice.

We understand that every participantr unique experiences and needs, which is why there is also plenty of room for personal attention. Our goal? To create an atmosphere where every participant feels comfortable and, above all, safe.

You don't need to have any self-defence experience to join this course. Moreover, all fitness levels are welcome!

Participation is possible from the age of 14.

Want to discover what this course can do for you? Come to our free trial classes at Monday 8 January and Monday 15 January 2024. Let us know you are coming via contact form.

For more details, please take a look at our Women Only course page.

The course itself starts on 22 January and runs until 25 March 2024. Classes take place every Monday from 20:15 to 21:15 at our Tilburg location at Professor Romeinstraat 11A.

Do you know or know someone who can't wait to join? Then write to here in for the course.

Youth workshop: Dealing with multiple attackers

Sometimes it happens that you have not 1 opponent in front of you but 2 or 3, maybe even a whole group. What do you do then? That will be covered in a special workshop.

Multiple attackers or multiple attacker scenarios is a topic that we are going to shed a little more light on during this special training. Indeed, we are increasingly seeing young people having to deal more with other groups of young people. You can read more about this in this news article

The training will take place at Sunday 4 February 2024. It starts at 1pm and ends at 2.30pm.

Would you like to participate in the training? Then sign up here to. Participation is without obligation.

Halloween

We have great news for kids Krav Maga classes (8-12 years) to make the Halloween season even more fun! During this special holiday, training sessions will be provided with festive themes.

That means you bring your spookiest outfit to class during Halloween!

On the following dates, you may don your coolest, scariest costume for our special Halloween workout:

Tilburg: Monday 30 October and Tuesday 31 October 2023

Breda: Monday 30 October and Thursday 2 November 2023

Hope to see you then too!

Training materials

For every class, we have certain supplies that make exercising even better. In Krav Maga, a bit, toque, and uniform come in handy so that we can train safely and together.

Moreover, we also sell sports t-shirts for both Krav Maga and FIT classes and, of course, the original Taus Gym vest which is ideal for the slightly colder periods.

Curious about what we have to offer? Take a look here.

In Tilburg, the equipment can be purchased at the venue. If you train in Breda, you can request the material via contact form and we'll bring it for you.

Holiday schedule

During this period, we also face the autumn and Christmas holidays again. During these holidays we adjust our usual class schedule so, please keep the agenda at your fingertips so you are aware of what classes are on during the holidays.

Also good to know: during the holidays with the week before and after, you may join the FIT boxing bag training sessions from 12 years of age, regardless of your membership!

Autumn holidays: 16 October 2023 to 22 October 2023

Christmas holidays: 25 December 2023 to 7 January 2024

Exams

There they are again, the exams! We have extra training sessions for you again such as curriculum training and pre-test so that you will soon be all set for the official IKMF exam.

Pre-test

Are you already well on your way to your exam and want to refine your techniques even further, or are you simply curious about how your Krav Maga skills are doing? Then the pre-test is just what you need! This test follows the official exam structure, so it's like a mini exam to prepare you for the real thing.

At the end of the test, you will receive your own personal feedback. It is super helpful for your training and it will help you get even better. So after the test, you'll know for sure if you're completely ready to take the official exam.

COLUMN DIETICIAN MEREL COENDERS

Resistance

It is slowly getting colder and wetter outside. As a result, we move more indoors, where viruses and other pathogens spread more easily.

So it is extra important in these months to support your resistance.

A healthy diet can help with this, as it provides all the nutrients you need for a functioning immune system. So make sure you have a healthy base:

  • Eat lots of fruit and vegetables
  • Choose whole-grain products
  • Take (vegetable) dairy products daily
  • Have a handful of unsalted nuts daily
  • Drink plenty of fluids

A key player in defence is your gut. 70% of your immune system starts in the colon. This is where intestinal bacteria, the intestinal epithelial layer and the intestinal mucosa are located. All three help identify and keep out intruders. The gut bacteria also help in the growth and division of immune cells. They ensure that enough immune cells are available to fight the pathogen.

So it is important to take good care of your gut. You do this by feeding the good bacteria to stimulate growth and activity. By doing so, you maintain a healthy balance and there is no room in the gut for bad bacteria. The food source of gut bacteria is dietary fibre. These are found in vegetable products: vegetables, fruits, whole grain products, legumes and nuts. Make sure you add these products to your daily diet as much as possible.
