Click here for the kids & youth newsletter.

The sun is starting to shine again and temperatures are rising, the summer season is back in full swing! We hope you are enjoying the beautiful weather and the energy it brings.

In this newsletter, we update you again on the upcoming events and trainings in our gym including the exams and their preparations, the new round of the Women Only course, the members BBQ and the outdoor trainings. In addition, we have some important updates and news for you.

Outdoor training courses

With the nice weather ahead, we will have more opportunities to train outdoors! This will give you the chance to develop your skills in a more realistic environment. Discover how training in the fresh air is not only good for you, but also just plain fun!

In the period of 1 July to 31 September we can train outside. For each lesson, it will be decided whether we will train inside or outside that day. This will depend on the weather and the topics taking place on that day. Therefore, bring both your outdoor and indoor sports shoes and an extra set of clothes during this period as you may get wet during training.

A number of dates are planned in Breda on which we will definitely train outdoors. This is due to the hall not being available during the summer holidays.

New Women Only Krav Maga course

We are pleased to announce that we will soon start another round of the Women Only course. In 9 lessons, you will learn to deal with situations that women face a lot, including situations where sexual harassment comes up.

You will take this inspiring course together with other driven women under the guidance of our experienced instructors. Together, we will create a safe and friendly environment where everyone can train comfortably.

The course will take place from 18 September to 20 November 2023 at our location in Tilburg at Professor Romeinstraat 11a. Classes will always take place on Mondays from 20.15h to 21.15h

Introducing: Emma de Wolff

Most of you have seen me during Krav Maga training sessions but for those who don't know me yet, I will introduce myself and tell you how I ended up in this newsletter.

To make sure half the newsletter is not just about me, I have written a short piece for now. Of course, I would like to share much more with you about me and what I like to do. That's why I refer you to the longer version which you can here can find.

My name is Emma and I am 20 years old. I started Krav Maga with the adults when I was just 16. I came in as someone who had absolutely no passion for sports and was quite insecure. I have since grown tremendously in resilience and self-confidence.

Maybe some of you have already noticed but recently I started doing some other things within the gym. I am working on different tasks behind the scenes of Taus Gym in which I also want to become more involved so if you have any great ideas, please let me know!

I have also been given other ambitions than just training and doing exams. Namely, I am on my way to teach classes and also do the instructor training. Currently, I am running along during the Kids, Youth and Women Only Krav Maga classes in both Tilburg and Breda.

I am also planning to join Meet the Marines again next year. Last year I also participated and I really liked it. If you want to know more about this, please read the blog by about the 24H Meet the Marines Experience and who knows, maybe our team will be joined by you next year.

Other than that, of course, I just want to come to classes a lot and the other events that are organised. You will also see me at the upcoming members' BBQ on 23 September. I hope to see you all there too and otherwise I will see you again during classes.

IKMF jersey

To provide you with suitable training clothes, we would like to take a moment to draw your attention to the IKMF uniform. During Krav Maga classes, we wear the uniform so that we can train safely with each other. Since we have a lot of physical contact and perform intensive exercises, it is important that we wear the right clothing for this as well.

By wearing the IKMF uniform during classes, we create unity and exude equality. Also, the uniform is made of sturdy material and therefore functional for our training sessions. We see that some members often wear loose-fitting clothing which easily tears or can even be dangerous during training sessions. Therefore, it is essential to wear the right clothing.

The black cotton IKMF t-shirts have recently been replenished so if you don't already own the full uniform, we encourage you to purchase it.

Feel free to ask us for advice on clothing via contact form

You can find more information on supplies here.

Grappling

Grappling is a dynamic martial art focusing on wrestling, grappling and control on the ground. It provides essential self-defence skills and develops your mental resilience.

Besides the fact that these classes broaden your skills in ground fighting, it is also a great work-out. It requires the use of almost all muscle groups in your body and helps you build strength, endurance and flexibility.

Curious? View the Grappling page for more information.

These training sessions are provided by Marcel. He has years of Grappling experience and is ready to help train at your level.

Would you like to join a few classes for free? Then now is your chance to discover what Grappling can do for you. On the following dates, you can join the classes regardless of your membership.

During the summer holidays, the gym of 27 July to 9 August closed. The two weeks before and after there will be a modified class schedule. These can be found in the agenda

To make sure you still keep fit and skillful in the summer, everyone from 10 July to 3 September attend all the training sessions we offer. So no matter your membership, you are welcome to try everything out!

We wish you a very happy summer holiday and we hope to see you in our classes again soon!

Column dietician Merel Coenders

With these high temperatures, it is important to cool down, including in food.

Therefore, in this newsletter, I share my green smoothie recipe, made with frozen spinach and blueberries. The advantage of frozen vegetables and fruits is that they are frozen soon after harvest. As a result, they retain much more of their vitamins and minerals than fresh produce. In addition, it is often cheaper and you can store it for longer. Time to fill the freezer!

Recipe green smoothie

The recipe below is suitable for 2 smoothies.

Supplies:

  • Powerful blender or hand blender.

Ingredients:

  • 150 g frozen spinach
  • 50 g frozen blueberries
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 green kiwi (possibly with peel, for extra fibre)
  • 300 ml unsweetened soy milk

Preparation:

  • Cut the banana and kiwi into pieces. For extra fibre, you can leave the skin on the kiwi.
  • Put the fruit, spinach and soy milk in the blender or a tall cup (in case of a hand blender). Blend until smooth.
  • Divide the smoothie between 2 glasses. Top with hemp seeds, flaxseeds or chia seeds, if desired.

Enjoy your meal!
